The CM Recruits Approach
Job hunting is exhausting!!
Not just physically… mentally. And I don’t think people talk about that often enough.
From the outside, it looks simple right? Apply for jobs, go for interviews, wait for feedback… and boom, you’re hired.
But in reality…
- It’s rejection
- It’s silence
- It’s constant waiting
- Its constant checking your emails and phone
- And sometimes… it’s questioning yourself
I speak to candidates every single day, and one thing that comes up more often than people realise is how heavy this process becomes over time.

You start off motivated. You’re in a good space. You’re applying, you’re hopeful, you’re putting yourself out there.
And then weeks go by… sometimes months.
You have no feedback.
Or you get a “unfortunately you have not been successful for this position” or “we’ve decided to move forward with another candidate.” It becomes one rejection after another.esult, confidence in an interview does not always reflect competence in a role.
An interview is also only a snapshot. A short conversation, often in an unfamiliar setting, cannot always capture the full contribution someone can make.
Or worse… nothing at all.
And slowly, it starts to chip away at you.
You start wondering:
- Is it me?
- Am I not good enough?
- Why is everyone else moving forward and I’m not?
But here’s the reality…
The job market in South Africa is tough right now. There are so many factors happening behind the scenes that candidates don’t always see… timing, stronger candidates, budgets, internal hires, roles changing halfway through the process, or the position just being put on hold.
And unfortunately, really good people get overlooked every single day because of it.
That doesn’t make you less capable.
It doesn’t make you less valuable.
But I’m not going to sugarcoat it…
That doesn’t make the process any easier. Because when you’re in it, it feels personal.
- It affects your confidence
- Your energy
- Even how you show up in interviews
And this is the part people don’t talk about enough… how easy it is to start slipping into a space where you feel anxious, discouraged, despondent, depressed and honestly… a bit lost.
So if you’re feeling like that right now…You’re not alone.
And more importantly, you’re not failing. You’re simply navigating a really difficult season.
What I always say to candidates is this… Try not to let the process define how you see yourself. I know that’s easier said than done. But your worth is not tied to how many responses you get or how quickly you land something.
Keep showing up.
- Even if it’s just one application a day
- Even if it’s just updating your CV
- Even if it’s taking a step back so you can breathe and reset
- Be consistent in your job search
All of that counts.

And please… don’t do this alone.
- Talk to people
- Network
- Reach out
- Stay connected
Because this process can feel very isolating if you let it. Lean on family and friends for support.
This season won’t last forever.
It might take longer than you expected… but that doesn’t mean things aren’t coming together at the right time for you.
Just don’t give up on yourself in the process.
Wishing you strength and clarity through this season
Crystal Greaver
